We’re looking for an experienced Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with a strong background in public accounting to lead our financial operations and ensure full compliance with tax and reporting requirements.
Position Overview:
The Accountant/CPA will be responsible for managing all accounting, financial reporting, and tax functions for Smithwick Engineering. This is a key leadership role focused on maintaining financial integrity, ensuring accurate reporting, and driving process improvements. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in public accounting and be capable of handling all company tax filings independently.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management
· Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
· Manage the company’s budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
· File all federal, state, and local business tax returns, including income, sales, and payroll tax filings
· Maintain compliance with all accounting and tax regulations
· Conduct internal financial reviews and audits to ensure accuracy and control
· Develop and maintain financial systems and policies to support business growth
· Prepare management reports and provide recommendations to leadership based on financial analysis
· Support project-based accounting, cost tracking, and profitability analysis
· Collaborate with leadership on long-term financial strategy and cash flow management
· Provide general administrative and clerical support as needed, including document preparation, filing, record organization, and assisting leadership with routine administrative tasks
· Utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook daily for reporting and documentation
Qualifications:
· Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required
· 8+ years of experience in accounting, with significant experience in public accounting
· Proven experience preparing and filing business tax returns
· Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
· Experience with QuickBooks Online or similar accounting platforms
· Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
· Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
